Current calls for papers for special sections and special issues are published on the submissions page at www.cai.sk.
Important notes for submissions to special sections and special issues
Special sections and special issues form sets of related papers, typically connected by the topic. Special sections usually contain 5 to 7 papers, depending on their length, while special issues may contain 10 to 12 papers. The selection process for both is two-staged. Since calls for special sections and special issues typically attract far more submissions than can be accommodated, a submission that passes peer review then undergoes a selection process carried out by the guest editor of the special section or special issue and by the journal's editorial board. Only some of the papers accepted in peer review will be selected for inclusion in the special section or special issue. Of the remaining accepted papers, some may be published in a subsequent regular issue of the journal if the editorial board deems them suitable. The rest, even if accepted in peer review, may be declined for publication in the journal.
Submissions to a special section or special issue are accepted until the respective submission deadline. After that, several weeks are needed to complete the review of all submitted manuscripts. Only once this process is complete can the guest editor and the journal's editorial board begin selecting papers for inclusion in the special section or special issue, or for publication in a subsequent regular issue. Authors are kindly asked to keep this in mind when inquiring about the status of their submission or its expected publication date.
Guidelines for editors of special issues and special sections
- Special sections and special issues must consist only of extended versions of conference papers from proceedings that have already been published and indexed by Scopus or Web of Science (WoS).
- Please collect papers with a high scientific contribution. A special issue (section) should have an international dimension, i.e. contain papers from different countries.
- You should send abstracts of papers to the Editor-in-Chief. The CAI Executive Board will decide on the basis of the abstracts whether they are relevant to the special section/issue.
- Papers must be formatted in the CAI LaTeX style and follow all requirements set in the Author guidelines. For the review stage only PDF files are necessary; the LaTeX source package of the manuscript will be needed once it has passed peer review.
- A special issue should not be longer than 220 pages, the length of a special section should not exceed 110 pages.
- The special section/issue editor will provide a foreword for the special section/special issue, 2 to 4 pages in length. It should contain short biographies and photos of the special section/issue editor(s) in the same way as papers contain short biographies and photos of their authors.
- If you handle the review process, each paper has to be reviewed by at least two referees (coming from different countries than authors of the paper). For transparency you should use the standard OJS 3 review process and the review form of the journal.
- The final decision on suitability of each submission lies with the Editor-in-Chief and the members of the Executive Board.
- The editor of the special section/special issue is responsible for communication with the authors, and especially has the responsibility to point them to the important notes for submissions to special sections and special issues above.
